LINE EDITING
What is line editing?
Line editing begins when no more substantive changes are needed. The line editor corrects all spelling errors, refines style and fact-checks when needed. They also suggest ways to make sentences clearer and more reader-friendly. A skilled line editor enhances your style without altering it and avoids making any substantive changes.
When to contact a line editor?
It is best to reach out to a line editor when your text is essentially ready. If it still needs significant work, a developmental editor or book coach might be a better choice. Ideally, you should approach a line editor after a developmental editor has reviewed your manuscript.

What does line editing entail?
For line editing, we recommend starting with a sample edit. Simply send us the first 10 pages of your manuscript (Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, left-aligned). A sample edit helps our editor gauge the scope of work and provide an accurate quote for your project. It also lets you see if our editor is a good fit for your project.
If you are happy with the quote, you can send the full manuscript to the editor. The editor will then make corrections using the Track Changes feature in Word and provide suggestions and questions as comments.
How much does line editing cost?
At RVbookcoaching, we currently offer line editing exclusively to clients who have gone through developmental editing or coaching first.
How to proceed after line editing?
When you receive the edited text from your line editor, review the corrections made by the editor and go through the suggestions. If you disagree with any edits, add a comment and discuss it with the editor. However, as the author, you have the final say.
